Project description
The developers are taking the concept of “shared square meters”, shared spaces owned and used by residents - and floor plan options from the FutureBuilt project Fyrstikkbakken 14 and developing them further. Keywords for this project are site-adapted architecture, reuse, sharing, co-living, and future forms of housing.
The project is a reinterpretation of Drammen’s traditional city block structure. The block adapts well to the existing structure of Bragernes and helps reinforce the urban character of the area. The scale of the project is adapted to the neighbouring buildings, and the aim is for this urban regeneration project to help extend the pedestrian zone and give the entire area a long-awaited boost.
Birk & Co are planning to preserve a couple of the existing buildings, dismantle some of the existing structures, and aim to create one circular building. A reuse survey has already been carried out, and the building components identified for reuse can be found at www.donorbygg.no. In addition, the project will look at plastic reduction, biodiversity and Zero-L (landscape).
The project also explores compact housing. Gjetergata 8 has been converted into a test laboratory with prototypes of compact homes with shared spaces. Participants are invited to view and try it out and provide feedback and suggestions for improvement.
