Project description

Lying between the green slopes of Ekebergskråningen and Oslofjorden, Grønlikaia is set to be developed as an entirely new district. How will the urban environment and architecture look when based on the concept of sustainability in its most comprehensive sense, in regard to social, ecological, and both local and global perspectives?

The southern tip of Grønlikaia is being designed as a free area of around 20,000–30,000 square metres that will be developed for activities on both land and sea. In order to ensure that a wide-ranging mix of groups with varying interests shall be able to use the area, the developer HAV Eiendom has striven to include stakeholders at an early phase and has invited various demographic groups, special interest groups, experts, and neighbouring districts to participate.

HAV Eiendom wants to develop the area according to so-called Doughnut economics. The project will itself be a model of how to ensure the sustainable development of an urban district and help set a new standard for similar feasibility studies and decision-making processes.

For this project, HAV Eiendom and its partner Rodeo Arkitekter have so far teamed up with Asplan Viak, the Norwegian Institute for Water Research (NIVA), Urban Living Laboratory, and Erichsen & Horgen. The project will unfold in close coordination with municipal departments, professional communities, research institutes, special interest groups, and various stakeholders.

Grønlikaia is a candidate project in FutureBuilt. This means that the project has not yet been formally designated a pilot project, but that HAV Eiendom and FutureBuilt have signed a letter of intent. The project is collaborating with the Norwegian Green Building Council as well and has also been pledged support from Enova.
